Warning about a computer virus from the Bucyrus Police Department

This message is from the Bucyrus Police Department:

Public Service Announcement from IT department:
As you may have heard on the news over the weekend, there has been a “Ransomware” outbreak called “WannaCry”.
Ransomware is a malicious program that encrypts your files, making them unusable.
The attacker then demands payment from you for the encryption key needed to unlock your files.

A reminder for your computer and other users on your network, to be very cautious in opening emails with attachments.
These attachments many times are the malicious code that, when opened, can render an entire business network inoperable.
These attacks are also becoming much more sophisticated.  They will send you an email, claiming to be from a coworker
or business associate or friend – but the email is not really from that person, and the attachment is malicious.
Since this threat was spreading over the weekend, it is possible that you may have malicious emails in your inbox now.
Again, please be careful in opening any attachments.
