BUCYRUS, OHIO (May 31, 2017) – The Bucyrus City School District Board of Education approved changes to the school calendar for the 2017-2018 school year during its regular meeting May 25.
The change involves professional development days for staff. The district will no longer follow the weekly early release schedule every Wednesday.
Certain dates throughout the 2017-2018 school year will now be on a two-hour delayed start. The two-hour delayed start dates include: October 6, 2017; November 3, 2017; February 6, 2018; April 6, 2018; May 4, 2018.
“We are making this change to better accommodate our parents,” said Superintendent Kevin Kimmel. “Announcing these dates now allows our families to work the two-hour delayed start dates into their schedules.”
The first day of school for students for the 2017-2018 school year is August 23, 2017, while the last day of school will be May 25, 2018. The Class of 2018 commencement ceremony will be at Bucyrus High School May 27, 2018.
“Teachers will continue to meet in their teacher-based teams to discuss students’ learning and what adjustments can be made to improve student growth,” said Kimmel. “Instead of meetings once a week on Wednesday, these meetings will take place during scheduled full day in-services, two hour late arrivals and during their common planning time.”
